Bitcount
TYPETR Bitcount is a 5x7 bitmap typeface initiated in 1977, designed within the strict confines of early digital grids. What sets Bitcount apart is its innovative use of contrast, even within such a minimal pixel matrix, to preserve essential typographic details and ensure clear differentiation between letterforms.
Besides the many types of pixel shapes, Bitcount comes in three flavours:
- Bitcount Grid: guaranteed to fit in the 5x7 matrix, including all diacritics
- Bitcount Mono: still fitting on the mono-spaced 5 pixels wide, this flavour extends the ascender and descender space, allowing room for full diacritics.
- Bitcount Prop: the vertical metrics is the same as Mono, but here all glyphs are proportionally spaced (rounded to whole pixels).
